And as always with me, the price was right. I loved this product. It would have been nice if the screen was backlit but that's one of the reasons I upgraded to the Z99. I used this until I upgraded to the Palm Z99. It kept me organized and on-time. Syncing was a breeze.
Sturdy design and you feel like you've got something powerful in your hand when you use it. Just a quick note to say I purchased the IIIxe as a refurbished unit and it is great. The only 'flaw' was the graffiti took some getting use since it is an older version of the software - at least I imagine that is the issue.All-in-all.great purchase and unit. Looks like something built to MIL specs - which is good. Not a problem at all. Not even a scratch on it.
Four days later it has not arrived. I emailed the reseller and was told it would be sent overnight. When I contacted the reseller again, I received the following professional response: "Bite Me.".So if you buy one of these used be careful. I ordered this from a reseller, cg_enterprises@tds.net. The unit arrived without a cradle to charge it.
at night I dl avantgo and read news from the otherside of the world before bed.I'm a broadcast engineer with high end editing systems that I built myself and I keep watching for something that I can replace this workhorse with, but no go so far. I also type memos with a keyboard when I'm in the field. Also this is used daily from am to pm. I still use my palm IIIxe. The long battery life and using nimh AAAs is the clincher, just can't beat the little rascle. The HP jornada line with the instant on and long battery life have caught me eye, but I don't care for windows CE. Actually this is my second one, my first one bit the dust, so I bought a refurb for $39.00 and it synced up with the 4.1 OS. bought it in 2001 from Amazon. it is great for addresses and calendar + todos.
I really loved my Sharp though. I just bought this PDA used from Amazon and I'm pretty pleased with it. I have had a terrible time getting it to synch correctly with Outlook and I couldn't get it to synch at all with Palm Desktop 3.5.3. The person I bought from on Amazon was great and honest too.
The Palm IIIxe seems pretty sturdy, but we'll see in the long run. Either with Palm or Sharp, this beats carrying around a paper and pencil organizer. That simple. If the battery is dead while you're on the go - just run to a convenience store and buy AAAs.
I use Outlook Express, not Outlook and it took a lot of trial and error, but I can get it to synch names and addresses, but I can NOT get email to work since i don't use Outlook as my default mail handler. The battery operated PDAs are the way to go because they can last forever in your purse and you don't have to remember to charge it. It's not color which I don't care about, but I am having a bit of a hard time seeing the screen well. What i like about the Palm IIIxe is that it's battery-operated (2 AAAs)- i honestly don't even fathom why people complain about this feature - they're nuts.
However, I just want it for names and addresses to replace an old trusty Sharp Wizard that they don't make anymore. No clue what the problem is, but after 2 hours trying to figure it out, I just gave up. So.if that fits your situation and you want to synch for email and download from AVantgo, then do not buy this.
